Question Headlight Film?

There are a few cars out there with tinted headlights. I have never looked close enough to see if it's a film, spray tint or otherwise. Bob & Craig Marshall's Stockers come to mind with the blue treatment. How is it being done?

Good memory Dave,

What combo are you running ? Must be a FORD, no doubt .The last news I heard about you was "at CTC in charge of performance parts program."
That was a number of years ago... The local Parts Source tried to recruit me...(Link Brown) but I am very happily employed @ NAPA.

I too, have noticed the tinted headlights on a number of Stock/Super Stock cars, I believe Mr.Parker's 1969 Camaro stocker has green one's.

To make tinted headlamps, use Dupli-Color Metalcast brand paint. It's transparent.House of Kolor paints can also be used.

Been tinting the headlights in everyone of my race cars since 1971. Used to get that spray window tint in a can at Western Auto back then, but that is all long gone. Now, I use Testors Transparent Blue in a little, I think 2-oz. spray can; believe the number is 1157Just make sure it is the transparent. It comes in green & red also. I get it at Pat Catan's, or most any craft store carries it. Best way is to take the lights out, clean em up real good with laquer thinner, lay them on a newspaper & start by just giving them a mist. The more you mist, the darker they become; but they look darker once in the car than on the paper, so just mist to your preference. They look just like the ones of old from the spray tint cans & they're still good for a tenth!! Pat

Sounds like this is an old-school trick. Does anybody know its origins?
