Default So what are everyone's thoughts on.......

the fact that a street car won Stock at the Gainesville D2 race. Personally i think its awesome, congrats Jeremy

Jeremy is an excellent driver and did a great job in Gainsville. He drove a 9 second Chevette for several years. Congrats to you and your Dad

Awesome, congrats! He was also runner-up at the Sportsman National event at Immokalee. The only rounds he's lost in Stock this year have been against world champions (and in two of those he was .009 and .011!). Keep that up, and he may take that title himself!

Chad can you define street car? Are you saying daily driven street car goodyear tires, mufflers and standard 92 octane gas from the local mobile station with no other modifications from the sales lot it was purchased from??? Did he drive it home after he picked up his winnings.

Not trying to be a smart guy, but the definition of a street driven car can be different from person to person. The only reason I ask the specific question is that I want to enter my street driven go to work 2001 2WD Dodge Dakota 4 door truck filled up with 87 octane from the local Sunoco on Main street into stock at Norwalk in May. Didn't know if this could be done with an actual street car.

I've seen Jeremy drive that car on the street, change the tires, drain the gas, and run Stock with it. Fairly successfully back a year or two ago. The first time I saw it, he failed fuel check because he did not know they did not have a spec for pump gas. I think the biggest reason they were trailering it was so everyone could ride together and they wouldn't have to change tires, dump the gas, and uncap the exhaust when they got there.

Here' a quote from that link.

they change the tires, put the pump gas back in it and his dad drives it to work every day. Here is a link to a thread on corvette forum where he talks about the car http://forums.corvetteforum.com/drag...nator-win.html

The reason i posted this is that most of us see how far stock has come, when back in the 60's they really were street cars with just a few things done. I think its refreshing to see a car that is still driveable be able to compete, go rounds, and even win in Stock. Especially in D/SA not B/FS.

They did tow the car to gainsville. It is a great running car. Looks more like a hot street car than a stocker as we know them. Jeremy is obviously a very good driver. If the car still has all of the street equipment on it that would make it a difficult car to go through the tear down process. Could you imagine having to pull a piston and rod out of that car. I had a 2004 corvette. You could barely find the motor from all of the wires hoses and other equipment under the hood.

Hey Chad, thanks for the thread...

Although I'm happy also for what Jeremy was able to accomplish with a street legal car, I'm no less jealous than I was for the Mopar contingent of fwd (turbo)cars, that were able to run well under their indexes with minimal mods done as well (hence your BF/S referrence). I'm also glad you left DF/S out of that, because most of those cars are non-turbo'd motors that needed the stock legal mods (just like the rwd's) to be competitive. When I first started racing my Z24 in stock back in '95, I was factored to run in the BF/SA class which had an altitude corrected index of 16.44 @ 5800ft. The closest I could run to that was 17.55 (streetable). In order to get my car to run the index (or .02 better), off had to come the A/C, and PWR STR systems & their power robbing belts...also gone was my Dynamax exhaust system. Furthermore, my OEM computer had to go because it was fighting the Stock legal rebuild I had done, and no-one built a computer chip that would help me out with the factory box. The topper was having to retard my cam timing because the cam that was built for me only had .218 degrees duration (hardly a power inhancer huh???). My combo was unfairly placed in a class full of turbos, quad fours, and aluminum headed V6's (when mine was cast iron). Thank GOD for the AHFS system (and a few letters to Glendora), for finally taking (overall) 20hp off my combo, so now I can actually be competitive with my car---however it (like most stockers), is no longer street legal.

With what I've been able to do from '06 thru '08, I wish I could've also had the chance to do then (the '90's & early '00's)....the '06 Mile High Nationals...the best run I had at that race was my index + .004, which coupled with a .002 light made me a rd 3 winner against a very tough Corvette driven by Tony Hernandez). Now the only thing I need is an enhanced budget to allow me to afford to race---I've unfortunately had to sit out the two closest races to me, and probably will also the one coming up next weekend in Tucson as well.

Again congrats to you Jeremy, and good luck to all of you that have a budget to race with---that's a work in progress for me, and as long as "Made in the USA" seemingly stays insignificant like it is now, this sport and the lower budget racers will continue to suffer the most for it...that's my .02 worth.
