Dan Fletcher, Super Stock (1994)
![]() Fletcher is the only Lucas Oil Sportsman driver to sweep the Western Swing. Though Denver was Fletcher’s first event at an altitude track, he adjusted quite well to the 5,860-foot-altitude Bandimere Speedway, wheeling his late father Tom’s ’69 Camaro to the Super Stock title over Larry Yow. Fletcher was again unstoppable in Sonoma, where he used a perfect reaction time in the final to beat second-generation racer Doug Lambeck in the final. Fletcher then etched his name in the history books when he topped Gary Rouse in the Seattle title round for his third straight victory, which was also his fourth of the season. Fletcher got a brief scare in the final when Rouse beat him at the Tree, .018 to .038, but “Fletch” overcame it and won with a 10.80 (10.78 dial) run. |

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for me personally; I put Peter Biondo and David Rampy right alongside of Fletch when it comes to best Sportsman driver ever. I don't even try to rank them; it's just those 3 in no particular order. Also don't forget that Jeg Coughlin was, and still is when he competes, a great Sportsman driver. In 1997 he became the only person to win National events in 4 different classes in the same season - Super Stock, Super Gas, Comp., and Pro Stock; very impressive in that each class requires a different driving discipline. You could debate this subject for hours.
