I am thinking of trying my hand at SS/CX with a real light Mustang and a 4 cyl. anyone have any advice?
What head? cam recomendations?, trans?.... car was 2410 with me and a aluminum headed SBF, so I figure it sould right around 2000# even maybe lighter with the 4 cyl. CX is 12.5 Lbs/Cu. Anyone????

I don't know if you could get the car light enough. How about SS/ES or FS 4 cylinder rwd 15.5 and 16.5 pounds per inch.

Art: I looked at those classes as well, but from what I read into the rule book, I can run Fiberglass doors, deck, front end in CX.

Jim Caughlin is the man to talk to. His Pinto and now Escort run SS/FS and have held the record for years. Good guy to talk to. He's listed as a member. Although he doesn't post a lot he does visit this board frequently.

Thanks guys.... the car is too far gone for Modified Stock, it has a tubular front end, and a bunch of light wieght components.. the car was originaly built for NMRA Hot Street, then I added the glass doors...
I know in CX I can run the car the way it is, maybe a little heavier than I want, but it will do till the new all tube chassis car is done.

This could be a killer combo, my sugestions are to run the Esslinger Ford, Midget sprint car engine. They are killer and will run over 12000 rpm in a Midget. The head has a ford part number and Essliger has roller followers / rocker arms. I have some experience with them and I think that you would be fast with one. This engine is very popular and you can find used engines and parts, there are a couple versions of the head a 3 cam bearing,4 and a 5 bearing. Of course the 5 is the best. But almost all of the engines are titanium valves and connecting rods.
Good luck, Conway Witten |

Conway: thanks.. I have been in touch with Esslinger already... they seem to be a cool group to work with. I have gotten alot of info on what blocks to use and they seem to think that we can easily get the mustang to run .8 under, then start looking for more..
