Default Appeal Results - Nice!

Don Davidson Appeal

NHRA modified the action taken against participant Don Davidson in light of the materials submitted by Mr. Davidson and NHRA’s further investigation. The May 2-4, 2014 Lucas Oil event at Texas Motorplex will not be counted against his quota; the $1,000 fine is rescinded; the appeal fee will be refunded; the vehicle will be inspected (including camshaft and carburetor) at the next NHRA-sanctioned event attends.

It's nice to know that the NHRA admitted that they made a mistake, and took the necessary steps to correct the mistake.

Large enterprises seldom publicly admit they've made a mistake...kudos to NHRA for doing just that!

NHRA did the right thing by refunding the fine and inspecting at next event. I suspect they read the forums and realized the troops are banding together. Any fine process should be progressive just like the criminal justice system. Tech inspectors have more important issues then a very minor infraction. Lets go over safety issues instead and enforce current rules in place.

The position previously held by NHRA was indefensible due to the fact that they used improper equipment to check the camshaft. Whomever the tech official was that checked the cam with a hydraulic lifter should be either retrained, fired or be delegated to parking enforcement from now on. Any competent attorney could have torn the NHRA up on just that part of the "violation". Once Glendora saw the discussion on here they went into the CYA mode. Oh yes they do read this site! I can personally attest to this. Congrats to Don Davidson. Also after a discussion with Don about his carburetor I do not believe it was illegal either.
This overall was a good move by the NHRA. They had two paths, ignore the appeal and insurmountable opinions by very knowledgeable racers, or do what they did. They chose the correct course. Now all they have to do is make sure their Tech Officials are properly trained in the particular job they do and make sure the equipment is the correct tool for the job and is checked and certified periodically. Simple right? Jim

Very glad to hear that NHRA did the "right" thing. Racing stk/ss these days is hard enough. Glen H.

I'll second that. NHRA finally looked after the little guy the way they need to. I hope to see many more stories like this...it would make me want to re-up all my credentials again.
