Default Advice?

I'm thinking about writing to the NHRA for a horsepower reduction on my '64 Low Compression Max Wedge wagon combination. It will always be a work in progress and I know that I'll always have to avoid the dreaded '69 Camaros but it seems like my station wagon is just a little more "outclassed" than maybe it should be. Do you think the NHRA would throw me a bone? When would the best time to write a letter? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

It may be worth speaking with Don Little, Steve Wann, Dwayne Scheitlin and others located on the west side of the country. All of those Mopar racers are faster than our particular 1969 Chevy Camaro and they may be able to offer some great advice or engine building services. All hard workers and very nice people as well. This route may prove to be more exciting and rewarding than forming a letter.

There is an online form that you fill out with the info on the combo that you want reviewed. It's real simple to complete. If that combo is slower than the average they will give you back some HP. I did it with my combo and they did reduce the HP. If there is a fast car similar to yours then it won't work. The online form is on the NHRA competition web page. Give it a try.

I would ask. Read the AHFS section about reduction and if you fit, ask. There can't be too many of that combo out there. No penalty for saying No.

For best results contact Larry Hill, as he took creative writing classes in college when not practicing on the basketball court. To this day his professor is amazed that Larry used his education to enhance his combination on the track. Larry is a great guy and I am sure he will share his wealth of knowledge .M.J.

Chris,

Send your letter in relatively soon and NHRA will consider it as part of the "Competitor Requests" for their year-end review. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone else running that particular combination, so if your average is low enough, you might get a little love.

That said, Jimmy D has a point in that the other Mopar racers he's named should be able to help you out. I'm admittedly biased, but Little and Wann are two of the best in the country, never mind the West Coast.

Also...Jimmy D's being a little too modest about how fast he is!!

Jimmy D's car is bad fast, he is just using that salesmanship stuff to fool the class competition at Indy. His car is faster in B/SA than I can run in A/SA.
