What are the rules for interior? Do you need factory seats? Back seat? Carpet?

Need more info ??? What class are you running ? etc.........
In stock + S/S you can use factory or racing seats, buckets must match & be covered ( padding )
Back seat is optional if you use roll-bar , must have metal sheet between back seat + truck ( with carpet ).. Hope this helps ....

If you are going to race Stock Eliminator or Super Stock, the first thing you need to do is join the sanctioning body you intend to race with, and get a rule book. The next thing you need to do is establish a relationship with the tech director of the division you intend to race in. If you have questions about rules, you need to ask the people tasked with enforcing those rules where you race.

And finally, see the appropriate medical professional, and have your head examined.

It's a lot cheaper and easier if you you walk out your back porch a couple times a week and start tearing one hundred dollar bills to pieces. Occasionally ask your wife or significant other to hit you upside the head with a ball bat. If this does not remedy the situation then......welcome to Drag Racing.

Like others have said, read the rule book. Don't pick a class until you have read the requirements for several classes you might think it could be built into. Figure the time, cost and effort and then either do it or don't.

The forum works best in clarifying the grey areas of the rules for a given class that you come across during the course of a build.

Mr Money,
The first thing you will want to do is give us a proper introduction..Name, and where you are located, etc.
There is probably someone here that's in your area that will help you out.
You need to get hooked up with someone who knows and understands what passes for Stock in 2016.
The rulebook is a good place to start, but if you follow it as written, you'll be way behind the curve. It might take years to catch up.
I know you want to do it all yourself for the satisfaction. I do just about everything I can myself, but certain areas require help from the pros.
Cylinder heads, carburetor, converter, transmissions are some of these areas.

I like Derby City's answer! I was advised to throw burning $100 bills in a trash can, it would be less work and heart break but did I listen? Noooo.

I had to get a custom headliner for my wagon--$700! There is no such thing as a replacement headliner for a 1963 Plymouth wagon. I paid less for my first race car.

Carpet is required. They just allowed race buckets. No backseat required if you have a roll bar. Complete dashboard but nothing has to work.

By all means go to the races and check out some stockers. That's probably the best advice.

I did all those things at the start too Alan. All was going well until I told the medical professional that I wanted to ground-up build an AMC Stocker so I could go really slow.
He had some interesting names of pills available for me...
