I have a new 12 bolt housing from STRANGE.
I was going to change the gears and I have a set of RICHMOND gears. The pinion gear on the new RICHMOND is 3/16 shorter than the gear we took out of the car. The new gear will not fit. Any idea what gives here. I thought all series 4, 12 bolt, gears were the same? Thanks!

The pinion gear is 3/16" shorter where?
Which ratio? Are both gear sets Richmond? The same series?

I've never seen any 12 bolt gears where the pinion was shorter in depth, which is what I take it you're referring to?
Post a pic of the new and old pinion side by side.

After looking at it I see the pinion will not pass through the bearing in the case.
new one has the bearing on it.

it appears that you simply have the wrong gear set. Maybe boxed wrong or looked up wrong number.

If we had the number it could easily be solved...we can see the packaging in your image.

If you think you have a problem just measure from the area that the front pinion bearing mounts to the end of the spline.....
Measure the bearing mount diameters of the front and rear pinion bearing.. Does the companion flange fit the new gear set??????????? Just looking at the pix it just appears that difference is the length of the gear teeth on the pinion caused by a ratio change..... Just my 2 cents.... Bob
