Ken: I believe you are correct that you had the first small block auto in the 10's. I was there and watched your pass! I was then racing and still run a 340 car, so I watched everybody pretty close in mid 90's and never heard of another car going that fast at either a divisional or National event!! PS: I recall numerous articles and ads that stated Jim Waldo had first stocker in 10's although I didn't observe that run myself...........................By the way if it wasn't for Al and Ken Etters help we would have quit Stock Eliminator after the first few races.

I do recall Don Nicholson set the Pro Stock record at 9.60 and he got on the scales directly in front of us.

No Dwight, Just giving credit where it is due, that was a bad@ss 302 though. Looks like the answer is Waldo. Maybe the Waldos will chime in.

The first iteration of Kent's 302 was in that car and ran 11.19@121 in 1982. Kent bought it in 1985 and he did much better with it than I did.[/QUOTE]
Dwight I think the east coast air was a contibuting factor to your motor running better in my car. :-) Kent |

Interestingly, it was exactly 23 years to the day (May 6, 2001) that Bobby DeArmond ran the first 9 second run at Mission. Last edited by Gary Waldo; 01-19-2010 at 11:31 AM. |

Thanks Guys for the history lesson. It is really cool to hear all the stories about all the old rides that made the history and sometime from those that made it.
Thanks Jeff Colvert SS/G 4456 |
