Now that John is out and as an old tech guy I have to ask, how was this ever allowed? Not that it really matters other than several rules were broken when this change was allowed. A-A replacement vehicle change plus a driver change is NOT permitted.. B-Replacement vehicle cannot have been utilized by any other contestant at the same event. C-Driver must stay within original eliminator category and class entered.
Its also stated the "spirit" of allowing changes is for "unforeseen circumstances...I.E., medical problem, personal tragedy,etc.". Don't see how setting a record and not wanting to put the car back together fits.
I posted this last night but deleted it not wanting to have someone at the race read it and complain and get John bounced. I know the changes really didn't cause any problems other than changing the SS ladder since one more car was added assuming John did not get the stang back together. But why devote a page in the rulebook (2.3-2.4) spelling out driver/vehicle changes if they are not followed.

No replacement vehicles at all.......TWO CARS WERE USED ......John was driving the '68 Mustang and the son the '64 Fairlane.......end of story !

Sorry, but just because you say "end of story" doesn't make it so. If your telling me that the son is also John Calvert and he was the one driving the Tbolt that showed up on the Stock Q listing then there is still the issue of him changing to SS or the Car being changed to SS with senior driving. If the same John Calvert drove the mustang and the Tbolt, somewhere during the day the mustang was replaced on the SS Q sheet with the Tbolt which makes it a replacement vehicle. Maybe you can explain to me how you can run one vehicle, replace it with a second vehicle and the second vehicle not be a replacement vehicle. If John senior drove the Mustang and Tbolt in SS my previous questions are still valid.

Not busting on John, my guess is he went to NHRA and requested the switch and it was approved. He likely didn't even known it was not a legal move (if my rules readings are correct). My question is why have the rules if they are not going to be enforced. If this is, in fact, a legal move its just something to store away for possible future reference. Did it make a difference? I don't know. It did chance both ladders so it is possible it did.

Stewart, Its very simple to explain: Its the west coast rule book. Or as some racers refer to the rule book as " The Left Coast Suggestion Manual. '' I really like the wheely bars on the T-Bolt but Tech says I cant run them in Div 3.

John's son is also named John....His son was definitely driving in stock....I raced him in time trials , it was his first race and he did well driving the car. John Calvert is one of the most honest and fair racers I have ever met in te last 20 years. Anything that was done at the race was certainly done by direct request to Mike Rice the Division Director! There was plenty of time at the race to have anyone approach either of these gentleman...they were easy to find. Everyone who raced Stock/SS was aware of the Ladder Changes and guess what: we all could of cared less! For anything that happens at a Div.7 race, the Division Director has the final say. I am sure Mike Rice would be happy to explain the circumstances to you if you call. He has been always easy for me to contact. As a racer I don't get paid to interpret the rules, so If I have a question on what we can or can not do.....I ask the Division Director and what he says GOES. John Irving
