My strap is mounted on the top of my back, even with them tight I can still lean a great deal.

Please don't lump all NHRA crew in the lack of integrity pot. I agree there needs to be some changes with the higher ups.
I work safety occassionally on one of the trackside trucks. We are always looking for people with helmets off or loosened belts even before they turn the corner. We try to politely ask the drivers to keep that stuff on until they are off the track. I can't tell you the number of times we have been flipped off, F bombed, and basically ignored by racers. Most racers follow the rules, but some dont.

Well I can tell you 1st hand that your belts being tight helps you walk away. I had a pretty good one a few years back and walked away. My car was tight and my belts were tight. Nobody needed to tell me....its a personal thing. When I pull up to the water I still occasionally think of that crash. Let's hope none of our friends crash with loose belts and get hurt..... It can happen to you trust me....

We can start by letting them know how we feel.....I think it's an issue for every racer not necessarily NHRA....(kinda like your mom zipping up your coat..do we still need that...ok some of us do....lol)...I will say something to Brad...He's a great kid and I certainly don't want him hurt....

Nobody wants anything bad to happen to anybody...certainly many races are won with tight belts....its not necessary and its way too big of a risk to take....
So we all need to say .....

..."Hey Jackoff...tighten up your belts before we're carrying you around in a box"

Let's not forget the racer in the other lane...not everyone is a Brad P with thousands of runs in a fast car...those looking over their shoulder with lesser experience and heaven forbid the newly licensed driver in a fast car is just as likely to drive right into their opponent's lane or overcorrect and ruin everybody's day.
