Asking for a friend who had a fire.
My friend had a storage shed burn to the ground with his 72 corvette totally burned with only steel and iron remaining. Is the engine (350) worth anything? Valve covers had started to melt and carb is melted blob. What do you think?

The heat from the fire usually doesn't do that stuff any good. It alters the steel and cast iron once it gets to a certain temperature. Aluminum changes states at about 1250F. It got at least that hot.

Block, Heads, crank should all be good, obviously the coolant in the block was boiling but the engine wasn't turning over. At 15000 F cast iron turns bright cherry red
