I think maybe the reason for upping the purse for the T/S and T/D cars at the nationals was probably done to whisk in the more exspensive faster cars so they could have there quick 8 shootouts...im not saying I haven't seen some super stickers out there that prob cost more than a T/S car but I guess we all have to deal with it atleast they did up all purses at natls and are having 2 5K races this year..if you look at the divisional payouts T/S and T/D get 20$ more first rd and 10$ more rd 3 and up 100 more to runner up than ss and 400 more to won than ss. So it kinda looks like the choice to raise the purse at nationals was to draw in faster cars make a 32 car field harder to qualify in and have a quick 8 shootout...but I don't know im just saying could be the reason

Mr. Beard. That race you talk about in Belle Rose where only 32 cars showed was in the middle of the summer in South Louisiana and a Tropical Storm/ Huricaine was projected to be in Belle Rose on Sunday. My dad ran the car in it, so we were there. It was miserablely HOT. The humidity in S LA adds a whole new factor of heat. I'm sorry to say it, but Older people have a hard time staying in a car with no A/C for that long. Why do you think there isn't any HRA racing around here that time of year? Car counts suck. Just look how Memphis National never drew cars. ITS HOT. People also have a hard time heading to a race to possibly get stuck in a Huricaine.
There is no way you can justify the differences in payout structure. Thats what I'm talking about. Who gives a crap if the winner takes home $1000 more in T/S? But they pay out 16 cars no matter how many show. If 16 SS show, only 4 go home without the weekend being a total loss, and 2 of those only make a $100 dent in thier weekend bill. I don't feel good about winning 3 rounds to take home a trophy and a bunch of money. I'd rather go 6. I don't care how many rounds I have to go. I want more cars to show up and give IHRA a try. Take a look at last years list, only the best show up to IHRA races down here. They are that good because they race twice as much as the NHRA loyalist. 1 400A SS/BM Larry Cummings, Hammond LA, '06 Cavalier 8.368 9.70 -1.332 2 41 SS/BS Byron Latino, St. James LA, '09 G5 8.831 10.05 -1.219 3 4006 GT/HA Dale Hulquist, Cosby TX, '98 Grand Am 10.162 11.35 -1.188 4 4022 GT/GA Jeff Teuton, Houma LA, '70 Duster 10.040 11.20 -1.160 5 428 SS/BM Kevin Helms, Schriever LA, '95 Achieva 8.604 9.70 -1.096 6 4735 SS/CM Slate Cummings, Hammond LA, '08 Cavalier 8.857 9.95 -1.093 7 4420 SS/AA Tim Hebert, Thibodaux LA, '68 Barracuda 8.868 9.95 -1.082 8 4166 SS/GA Larry Stewart, Clinton MS, '67 Nova 9.780 10.85 -1.070 9 4789 GT/EA Hagen Gary, Pearland TX, '02 Camaro 9.897 10.95 -1.053 10 4426 SS/AA Joe Teuton, Schriever LA, '68 Barracuda 8.966 9.95 -0.984 11 4957 SS/GA Mike Braswell, Ft. Worth TX, '66 Nova 9.869 10.85 -0.981 12 6021 GT/EA Mark Faul, Tacoma WA, '98 Grand Am 9.981 10.95 -0.969 13 6104 SS/AM Brad Plourd, Maple Valley WA, '05 Cavalier 8.568 9.42 -0.852 14 4737 SS/HA Benny Smith Jr., Baton Rouge LA, '68 Camaro10.049 10.90 -0.851 15 4500 GT/AA Alvin Guillard, Destenham LA, '90 Camaro 9.585 10.40 -0.815 16 4442 GT/FA Sid Bonnecarrere, Gray LA, '68 Barracuda 10.348 11.10 -0.752 17 1781 SS/EA Dan Fletcher, Churchville NY, '69 Camaro 10.355 10.65 -0.295 BTW, T/S drew 15 cars last year. And they payed through the nose to all 15. Thats $7,700 for $3,000 collected at the gate. and T/D drew 22. So $7,900 for $4,400 at the gate. Take a look at that list agian. The avg car couldn't be had for less that 65K. If i were to run T/S, I wouldn't think you would need more than this http://www.racingjunk.com/category/1...per-Quick.html
There are alot more T/S cars for more and alot less. Give me a break with it costing a whole Hellava lot more to be competative in T/S. This 07 GTO is 5k more and I bet gets more runs before it needs to be taken down. Last edited by Hagen Gary; 02-16-2011 at 09:45 AM. |

Only three cars on that list were not the regular group at Div 4 IHRA races when I was going in 2009. I hope the car and I are good enough to go again this year.

I did a little more "Homework"
Take the 5 fastest SS cars by E.T. at that event. SS/BM Larry Cummings, Hammond LA, '06 Cavalier 8.368 SS/AM Brad Plourd, Maple Valley WA, '05 Cavalier 8.568 SS/BM Kevin Helms, Schriever LA, '95 Achieva 8.604 SS/BS Byron Latino, St. James LA, '09 G5 8.831 SS/CM Slate Cummings, Hammond LA, '08 Cavalier 8.857 Now take the entire field of 15 T/S cars at that event, and using that fancy math again, you get an avg. of 7.399333, or lets just call that 7.40. So, 30% of the SS field are within .94-1.45 secs. from qualifing MID-WAY through the T/S pack? Larry is less than a second from the #6 spot! They do that with 1/2-1/3 the Cubic Inches, no laughing gas or turbo/SC, weighing 3-500 lbs more, in a factory produce(Not all fiberglassed out) body. One of them even does it with 1 carb. Nevermind the Hemi's that are right behind the mods in E.T. They do it with more Cubic Inches than the mods, but weigh a bit more and do it with 1960's Factory Parts! Yeah, You T/S boys "Lay it Down" allright. I'm impressed! I wonder how easy it is leaving off of the top bulb. Last edited by Hagen Gary; 02-16-2011 at 11:51 AM. |
