1973 NHRA Super Stock and Stock Class Weight Factors
Cook and Leong 1971 Dodge Charger R/T ~ 426 Hemi ~ Class 'B/SA' In 1973, The NHRA had re-factored the 1971 426/425 HP {Hydraulic Camshaft} to {450 HP} #3839 lbs. ~ 450 HP = 8.53 Wt/HP Now that was one nice weight break for 1973. For Stock Class, any tires {DOT approved} that could fit within the Rear Fenderwell was permitted. This Charger R/T had 12" Wide Tires. In 1973 Stock Class, you had run thru a full exhaust system {No Headers}. Rumor has it, that this 1971 Dodge Charger R/T was 'chemically engineered' at the factory by Chrysler. I remember being behind that 1971 Charger R/T '426 Hemi' in the Staging Lanes at Englishtown. I was running my 1969 440 'Cuda in B/SA as well. That Charger had 'Mother Monster' rear tires, which were nearly a Foot wide. ........................ ![]() Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 10-13-2014 at 08:20 AM. |

Pete,
You are correct. 1974 In Stock Class, you couldn't run Slicks, but you were allowed Monster Mother Tires, as long as they fit within the Rear Fenderwell. I believe Ray Cook and Art Leong had N50- x 15's on the 1971 Charger R/T. I had Concorde G60 x 14's on my green 69' 440 Cuda for 1974. Thankfully, we were allowed Headers in 1974, but still had to retain the full exhaust system w/tail pipes. I ran against them on a 'Cold *** Day', and I couldn't hook up, and broke loose sideways coming off the line. I nearly T-Boned the Charger. Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 10-23-2014 at 06:25 AM. |
