There is a good article in one of the early-1967 Magazines,
About the NHRA permitting the use of the 1967 440 Hi-Po Cylinder Heads (Casting #2780915) on the 1962 Dodge and Plymouth 383 cars with the Dual-Carb 343 Horsepower engines. With the lack of availabilty of the 1963 {300-J} Cylinder Heads, the NHRA will allow the 1967 440 Hi-Po Cylinder Head (same Valve Size and equal Port Size) as a legal replacement. Suprisingly, with the lack of 1962 Plymouth Sport Fury and Dodge Model #440 hardtop cars around (low production numbers) Chrysler made a weak effort in trying to get the 1963 Model Year Cars (higher production numbers) legal with the 383/343 HP combination sanctioned as a legal Stocker. Thanks Paul, Do you have a guess which title ran that article? Right off the top of my head I remember Popular Hot Rodding (I think) doing an article about Valley Head Service doing a valve job on the new 67 GTX heads and testing the results at Irwindale. I don't know if it was Stock legal or not!
I have alot of old magazines so I'll start digging. Thanks again! |

Straight axle..........I have a SSDI magazine from the late 60's of the Callahan and Sulk 62 Plymouth stating that they were allowed the use of the 67 440 heads. I Thought it kind of strange for the time period of the lack of availability of OE heads.

The Nemesis car shown here at National trail raceway in Columbus, Ohio might be the old Nancy`s Nemesis car owned by Darrell Davis from Florida......He went on to become the Division 2 director......He was high up at Chrysler and found me a brand new set of 300J heads back in 1972.......

Pate's Tapes & Records...original unrestored.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "What Curt found was an unmolested artifact from the SoCal Stock Eliminator wars of the late '60s. Negotiations to buy the wagon took about 10 minutes. The lady said the car was in her way for 30 years, and she'd be glad to get rid of it now that her husband had passed away. The price? Nine hundred bucks!" (I should be so lucky!--M68) "Campaigned by Tom and Pat Foley between 1967 and 1970, the Music Box frequently outlasted the opposition in H/Stock eliminations and actually won its class at the '70 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona."
