Tom, my 1st racecar was a '57 Chev.dual-quad 270 horse 283 +.030 that we put a BW 4 sp, w/5.14's into. Car was a convertible (D or E/S)--heavy...but still went real good....Do you remember Atlas Bucron tires? They used to be pretty decent street/drag tires in their day-- before M&H super stocks came along....now I am showing some age, ha!

Sure I ran Atles Bucron, think I left them on and drove all week on them .[1st drag radials]

I sold the 57 when I bought a 59 Pontiac that was winning races.
The guy who bought my 57 put a 4 speed in it and had to run d/g, as tech told him 57 chevys did come with 4 speeds, as I remember it

this is a picture from 1962 and the wins in '62
think it ran d/sa never ran NATIONALS, because of cam

If I could jump as high as the starter I would still be playing basketball.

Thanks for the pictures.

Can anybody ID the track where most of these shots were taken....with the uphill shut-off area? The layout reminds me of 75-80 in MD but the surrounding geography and what looks like the "Miss Roanoke" trophy queen makes me think VA of course. Could that be Culpepper,VA or a track that has closed? That shot of the chopped #29 B/C car reminds me of Suffolk.....Wow, I've got to get away from this computer.....

Any older Roanoke,VA racers out there? A friend of mine researched that Allan Brown book about race tracks and said there was a 1/4 mile drag strip circa 1960 in or near Roanoke....No mention of years in operation or name.....anybody remember that place? So I guess that's the track in the photos....given the trophy queen that's there.......
