A row (on both sides of the pit road) of fully paved behind the grandstands the whole 1/8th mile, then several rows up the hill of paved pit road.... was new last year so it was dirt at the time (but could parallel park the race car on it), but I assume it's had time to get some good grass grown on it since last fall.
If you go to Google Maps and have it in Satellite view, just look up Tioga Center, NY, then follow Rt 17C northeast out of town until you find Skyline Drive. Follow it up and you'll see the track. There's been additional pit roads added since that satellite image.

I went that way last year. A little windy, a little hilly... but it's central PA, so I suspect you'll have that regardless of the route. Didn't bother me... I didn't think it was bad. I would go that way again. I-81 is probably a good bit further for you, and has its share of mountains, but you can usually get a good run on 'em. I don't know what traffic/construction is like on I-81 these days...

Hello...
My Dad and I are planning on being there this weekend. Add 2 more to the car count for SS... I raced at Skyview yesterday to check the place out as I was never there before. To get there, go by the directions on their website. They were pretty good. If you map it with Google maps, use Tioga Center not Barton as there is another Skyline Drive near Barton, according to Google Maps. They seemed to run the program pretty quickly yesterday. There was a makeup race from a couple weeks ago that they finished before starting yesterday's program. Once they got going, it went quick. I found the traction to be a little iffy during time trials, but it came around for first round. Unfortunately, somebody oiled the track big time on the starting line in the left lane before 3rd round. I was the 5th pair of cars after the oil down and blew the tires off. In all fairness, I had radials on the car and they usually don't spin a little... I saw cars getting down the left lane later in eliminations. Talking to the local racers, they said that the track prep is always real good for races like the Pro-Am, so I am hopeful it will be good this coming week. As for the pits, not a lot of grass, mostly gravel. The main pit area is paved for the most part. There is an upper paved road that's a little narrow, but rigs were parked on both sides of it with the race cars sitting on asphalt. They just opened an all concrete oval track next to the drag strip. You can watch the oval track races from pits of the drag strip. They were running yesterday and looks like they have a race this weekend as well. Looks like we'll have something to watch Saturday night... Jeff Jewell |

Tim,
I have found the best way is to go up rt. 15 to 14 to Canton then take 114 to 220. Call me if you get lost. Wes

Traction was great last year with the IHRA crew there. The local racers commented on how good it was, too.
One tip: You have to cross the lanes and back into the burnout box, so it's possible for a little debris to be dragged up in front of the burnout box. It's a long way from the burnout box to the starting line. Keep your wheel wells and rocker panels free of debris, and it'll keep that area cleaner, easier. Burn to the starting line and you won't pick up anything that is there. My dad commented that he only saw Wes and I burning past that area last year.
