Like most everything else it is not that one is faster than the other, it depends on the setup. It has a lot to do with the efficiency of the ports/combustion chamber. Less efficient heads are going to do better with carbs. At least this is what I have seen on the dyno on multiple hemis. carbs one hands down every time. Of course at the the time I learned this, I was working with a very respected engine builder/tuner and this is how he explained it. Makes sense. Then again, I am not quite as sold on him as an efi tuner as I am him as an engine builder and carb tuner...

If everything pans out I will be running a turbo car in O/SA next year. Dont worry.. Only 4 cylinders haha. It is an if. So we will see..

I was astounded, recently, to learn that the 1957 Mercedes 300 SL (street car; not the race car, although it may have had it, too) had direct injection.
I didn't believe it, so, I checked the information out from several sources, and indeed, it was true. Direct injection on a gasoline engine 52 years ago.... Who'd-a-thunkit???
