Smile Re: The muscle car is alive and well in the NMCA!!

Hi Doug....I knew you father very well. Sorry to have heard of his passig awhile back. I almost bought a 64 Max Wedge car from him about a year before he passed away and we had many talks about the old days when I worked for the NMCA back in the mid 1990's. I was at INDY in 1968 when he was runner up to Larry Lombardo when we first met. He was a good man. Did you know his old 63 Dodge wagon was in Waldo Florida or at least what was left of it? I still watch the NSS cars at various events that were close to Md. but now Im living in Florida and will try to go to Bradenton for the NMCA event. I look past the little things like the hood scoops, modern wheels, etc. but I hear the same complant from other old farts sitting in the stands when the NSS cars are running so its just not me alone making coments about this. NSS is supposed to resemble the look of the cars as they were raced in the year they were new cars. I also recieved several Pvt. emails agreeing with me 1000% about the current looks of the old cars. The one other complaint I hear is the fact that one of the most famous S/S cars from the 1966 era is not even allowed to run NSS. Grumpys Toy 66 Nova....yes I know its a SMALL BLOCK but that was one of the apealing things about it back in the day with Stahl running Jenkins. "David vs Goliath". Oh well....it is what it is and the past is the past.

I don't know the answer to the problem with a hood and scoop combination for a MOPAR car. Any discussion always turns to the scoop or the hood not being right. No other problem just be sure you don't have the wrong hood and scoop.

Nostagia trivia- What kind of hood and what did the scoop look like on the:

Tosten & Jenning SS/BA GTX
Bill Tanners SS/DA '70 Dodge
Speedwin Motors SS/BA Dodge Dart
1968 NHRA Spring Nationals SS/B & SS/D
1970 AHRA Winternationals SS Elliminator
1771 IHRA Super Stock Eliminator
-And on and on and on-

I thinks it is that "big, ugly, awkward," high horsepower producing, hood on the MOPAR cars shown in Competition Plus. These hoods and scoops are not some new modern technology that some "Backet Racer" thought up. They are just as intimidating today as they were then.
