As far as weight goes... As light as you can make it and have it still look right. Take all the weight out of the front and put it in the back and then add another 200 lbs. There is acid dipping going on and alot of alum parts being fabbed. Again if it looks as if it was delivered it is legal.
I have been racing FAST since 2003 and it has evolved quite a bit since then. I personally like the look of a restored musclecar but like a bit more peformance. I've run a 70 T/A Challenger and a Six Pack 71 Super Bee. Both cars have been 11.50s at about 123. Neither car have a roll bar so I stick to about the 11.5s. Been working on putting a Hemi together so a jungle gym is in my future. Not everyone is out for blood, alot of these cars still provide transportation to the local cruise night. Of course there are some purpose built cars as well. Anyway, the tires you see on Lanes Mustang are in fact reproduction Polyglas GT G-60 15 tires. It is common for racers to shave the tires down to the wear bars. Lanes tires are on the ragged edge for sure. We have all been through the "soaking thing" and I can't think of anyone that still does it. Another common aid is to hold off the timing advance through either a digital ignition box or to simply slow the distributor way down. |

Think factory built light weight drag cars and special dealer built drag cars are excluded from FAST racing.

While this looks like flying it by no means is stock, Billy Nees you are right the money spent on these cars is beyond a SS car and they would not pass any class racing tech. You really have to be hooked on that kind of racing to spend that kind of money on a one venue car.

I also race in the F.A.S.T. series and follow along on this site for info on suspension setups. I ran an AAR Cuda till I met my goal of running in the 11.50's and then my son and I built a 1971 Duster. This car has gone 11.45 @ 118.7 so far. 1.68 60' . Tom didn't mention this but there is no prize money. Top eight qualifiers get a travel coffee mug.
Here is a link to youtube video of Lane's run. I have others from that day at Cecil also. Sorry about not showing the 9.84 but I had to edit the video for family viewing . Trying to watch and tape makes for shaking viewing. |

Cool video. This one was positioned right under the FAST video. What it has to do with FAST racing, I don't know!
