Hey Toby,

I probably should have been more clear. By "single" I meant that I was the only GT/JA car in the list. I wasn't referring to a possible bye run (aka "single").

In the past, when I ran class, there were rarely more than for or maybe five cars in my class. So it wasn't too big of a deal to determine who would run who. But with this "enhancement", where all single-car-in-a-class-with-a-particular-transmission-type are lumped together in a run-off, that grouping can get pretty large, such as in this case where there are at least 12 cars. So I wondered how the run order would be determined, if there is some "official" way or whether it was just up to the participants.

Yes, I knew what you meant. I have run class in G/SA that had 12 cars or more. There was no ladder. It's up to the racers to decide who runs who and who gets the single.

Sometimes they draw numbers out of a hat. Sometimes people request to run each other. Sometimes they flip coins. Usually, the highest qualifier gets pulled out for the bye and the rest just run whoever they are lined up with.

I'm pretty sure it will be the same at Atlanta.

Hi,

The problem starts when there is a 9 car field (worst example), which means every round except the final will have a bye.....

NHRA could (if they wished to) generate a ladder based on the last qualifying runs in 5 minutes and eliminate the dance that we go though to race......

I don't think that it will ever happen because it is more work for NHRA....
