Actually I believe that the SS/C AMX is a dynamite combo. It was my second choice before I built my Corvette to run SS/A and SS/B. Look at the bore/stroke and carbs. It's a 400+ CI modified motor and with a good chassis under a 97" wheelbase I think that car could fly. If I was gonna build a Super Stock car, an AMX would be a very serious consideration.

The 258 2 barrel is a much easier combo to work with and you can run a 4 speed with most combinations. Will easily run 1.2 under in V, 1 under in U or T.

Back in the late 60's I worked at an AMC dealership and man, some of those Ramblers were very peppy. Through the years I have owned 3 1969 Hurst Ramblers, 5 1969 AMX's, and several 8cyl Gremlins. I dragged raced everyone of them, even ran one Rambler and one AMX in super stock with the 390 4 speed combo. In October of this year my wife and I drove our 1977 AMC Gremlin 258 2bbl to Charlotte to the GoodGuys. Had a blast and had a lot of comments on the Gremlin. As far as performance with the 258, on the highway at 75mph I got 18 mpg and made the track cruise twice at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for a total of 6 laps and got up to 85mph pretty quick. Would of went faster but I felt like that was fast enough. I would love to see more AMC cars in IHRA and NHRA.

The C cars can now run B as well. I think there is an alum head approved for them now too.
Aris Asdourian has his D/SA at Hagerstown this year in Nov on Sunday at the Tri State S/SS race.

He has his SS/C car there on Sat, but broke the engine. He went home and got the stocker and came back Sunday.

Aris's '70 AMX is my former Stocker.
And Scott, If your serious about wanting a SS/C AMX ,I built the chassis and cage on Aris' car and have all the patterns.
Jus bring a wheelbarow full of cash! ...And make sure you have a second one full when you build the engine!! LOL

ps The only good 258 combo is the '77 2bbl ,in just about any body style.

I'd love to race one of those cars but if I was to get back in I'd do it in Stock. Nothing do to with cost. But I'll bet none of you can guess why???
