One of my Co workers just told me about a LOCAL softball Tournament where the 2 final teams compete for $25,000.00 YES $25,000.00! It is sponsored by "Coors Light" and this is CITY League level (just a bunch of guys who play on the weekends in loosely self coached teams).
How is it that this AMATEUR league sport can get this kinda sponsor pay out with NO TV or Radio endorsement and NHRA sportsman drag racing AND local combo races and bracket stuff pays $250.00 to WIN? Keep in mind these guys have a $100.00 bat and a $150.00 glove to buy maybe a $50.00 pair of shoes and pay $30.00 to enter the tournament and $60.00 for a season membership...(Such a HUGE investment) Where are we doing this wrong????? P.S. I feel that Drag racing HAS to be more exciting than this ( Dont Hate I just dont like stick and ball sports) Last edited by aspen7709; 03-21-2015 at 01:42 AM. |

You asked what you are doing wrong. You chose not to play soft ball and you chose to race so you can loose all your money. The only thing that I can think of worse, is your March Madness brackets after the first round. Holy crap.

Don't you think paying for, and maintaining a big racing facility cost more than using a city or county owned ball diamond? And all the personel it takes to put on a race, instead of a few umpires? Even after you leave out the huge profit NHRA is making, it would not be apples to apples.

Plus those ball players actually stick together and show up to support the sport.

NO, you guys got it wrong. I played in a bunch of softball leagues, the payout is in proportion to the amount of beer they drink!
