Is a hydraulic cam legal in a solid lifter engine in Stock? I had the thought that we will be giving up a small amount of lift due to the lash in a solid lifter cam. We don't get much lift in the 273 combos, so maybe every bit counts? We can run the hydraulic lifters with maybe .002" preload/travel? Any thoughts on this?

I'll second that. Spiro Jannings at Redline Race Cams. He's innovative and tailors for each combo. It's refreshing to talk to the designer/cam grinder and not somebody sitting at a computer trying to sell you something they sold somebody else and still don't know how it worked out.

For Pure Stock I always advocate for Bullet. They are very helpful with advice and technical information. Prices are always fair. Dan |

We used a Bullet cam for our big block Chevrolet and are happy with what they provided.

Actually, Tim Cole has been running the competition department at Comp for years, he and Chris Padgitt have been the Stock and Super Stock experts there for years, and have not gone anywhere. Billy Godbold has been their cam designer for quite a while. John Partridge bought Bullet Cams from Darrel Hawkins, John had been working for Atech Motorsports, the commercial side of Summit, after having left Lunati years earlier. John is a nice guy, and Don Walthall is a very good cam designer. But no, they do not employ "all" of the Stock and Super Stock cam experts from "all" of the other companies.

Another vote for Red Line Cams. We will give them a call when we get closer. We did some flow testing on the 920 head and did a sonic test on the three blocks. One of the blocks had thinner decks (~.380") than the other two. I am looking for a set of 302 casting heads to flow and some of the stock iron intakes. My builder didn't like the mismatch in the ports between the 920 head and the LD4B. Quite a difference in port width. I guess Edelbrock assumed that people would do a port/gasket match on the heads.
