"Stock-Look" Stockers

My 2 favorites are cars with personality like Travis Hess' Hemi Or clean and simple like Dennis Alveys. I still appreciate sticker cars being that there stockers. It does suck that the stickers aren't worth the paper their printed on anymore.There all still way cool!

Yeah, I'm one of the old school guys. When we started racing, most all the race cars had a name & decals. We referred to the cars by the car's name, not the owner or driver's name. The car's name seemed to give it it's own personality.

When I built my first '68 Bird, I didn't even know where to buy all the decals. I got the Lunati cam decals out of the cam box, the Stocker cam came in. Picked up the others at NAPA or wherever I could. Later became a speed parts vender, and found out where to get the decals. So, when I put the Bird back on the street, it had a lot more decals.

For you younger guys who don't remember it, Easy Lovin was a very popular radio song, back in the early '70's. It reached #1 and was song of the year, 2 years running, on the country charts, and made it to #17 on the Billboard pop chart.

I like the clean look myself. I can remember Bobby Warren's black Camaro winning back in the 1970s with just a few decals. I can appreciate guys running the decals to get the contingency money. The NHRA purse barely pays for the fuel hauling to the race and maybe the entrance fee?

There certainly is something to be said for putting a little bit of time into arranging the decal layout. There are a lot of cars that look like Ray Charles did the application. It might be time to remove a few of the out of date ones also, pretty sure the Grace Cup one is out of date...

Another opinion on this is, that by displaying contingency decals on your race car, you are supporting the manufacturers that support you. It isn't always about contingency money. What about the before and after sales service that we receive? It is very cool to have support available at NHRA races, etc. The least that I can do for some of the companies that have gone out of their way for me is to run their decal on my cars.
