James,
No doubt that d1 does pay more but, we also pay more to get in. $170 in D1 and $160 in D2. JC and ATI have done a great thing for the Stock & SS racers with there programs and adding on the bonuses along with some other deals. The thing is we’ve come to a point now where the racers themselves are having to offer up bonuses to add to the purse or get cars. Frank Aragona did that in Comp to try to get more cars involved and had 31 this weekend. Tommy Tape went around to random qualified races in TD & TS and gave $$ bonuses. Jackie Fricke gave bonus $$$ to #1 qualifiers in TAD & TAFC and Tom Stalba in the .90 classes. That’s great that they are doing that and I applaud them for taking the initiative to give back to the racers but, I’m saying is the Association should be giving back to the racers for coming and supporting an event. So if you want to break it down (don’t eat lunch while reading this) Stock - 128 entries x 170 = $21,760 Payouts = $6,200 Profit = $15,560 Super Stock = 93 entries (89 made first round) = $15,180 Payouts = $4,950 Profit = $10,860 I didn’t factor in gold / silver cards into the entry fees above. Just off of two classes over $25,000. I understand you have overhead and expenses and I believe the tracks that have Alky have to pay the purses because they get in for free which is around $21 or 22,000. I’m just saying, if the car counts make it to 64 bump it to $1,800 - 96 to $2,000. We had Stock / SS racers put big $$$$ races on and got no support from it and they fizzled out and went away. For most it’s a separate job to contact all these sponsors and try to get support to put on these events and when nobody shows you get beat down. Lee, Myself, Brian VP and Mike will all attest to it. I understand to most that gold man at days end and seeing yourself in ND is the most important thing but, sometimes you have to take a step back and shake our heads I’m sure I won’t make many friends from this post and probably get some hate mail or get put in time out by Ken but, just stating the facts. |

Rob
It is to my understanding that the track that hosts a points race has to pay NHRA a fee for having the race. If that’s the case than yeah why can’t nhra raise the purses like you just said. And it is very sad when guys like Lee & Brian had the combo in the hills s/ss race and 1 year Dave Ley had that 10k race at Atco that you couldn’t even get 100 cars combined, but at MG points race you had 128 Stockers alone. Just my opinion !!
