With all the enhancements we have had over the last 15 years I don't think there are many combo's that can't achieve that performance. I bought a 74 Corvette from a nice guy in Tn about 6 years ago. When we picked it up he told us that it was a tough combo with the HP rating and didn't think it was a good car any more for the class. A year and a half later we were going 10.70's in G/SA. Now I have a 1970 Camaro. Bought from another real nice guy. He bought motors from several different builders including Armstrong and Ficcaci . The fastest that I have seen him run was low 10.20's in great air. Here a year and a half later I was running 10.0's this past weekend in the heat with still more left. My point again there is always more to get out of your car. And by the way it still has the motor in it that as when I bought it from him. Yes the best Brian Thilburg has freshened it up for me.
MY brother and I have preached to our friends for years. Find 10 things that only give you a .01 and you now have a tenth. Get lucky on some of those ten things and you could have a lot more. On the 3 hr ride home from the track this weekend all I could think about all the way home were those 10 things I need to do to the car. BP
Barry,
To be fair I think you left out one important fact in this post. And that is the gentleman you bought your car from may have been a really nice guy but he found this car to be very challenging and he became extremely frustrated and just walked away. I wish I was that smart. But he rarely, if ever, got a clean pass with the car and decided to let it go cheap. I don't think it's helpful to call out Ficacci and Armstrong while praising Thilburg, no matter how soft you make it appear. In all probability, the former owner of your car would have had just as much trouble with the car if he had a Thilburg motor in it.

Bruce by no means was I saying anything wrong about Armstrong and Ficcaci. I may have wrote it wrong. My point was just the opposite. It's more than just spending money on motors and parts to get your car to hit that 1.20 mark. He had two good motors for the car but still could not get it to run to it's potential. My car still has the Ficcaci motor in it. When we put it on the dyno it made real good power. It's not making that much more now.

I wrote this because I hear to often that my car can't go that fast because the combo is not good. I think most combo's are good you just have to work on it or phone a friend BP

Bruce I just read my post again and nowhere did I call out either Armstrong or Ficcaci. Both are premiere engine builders.

When I first read your post, I interpreted it the way you intended. You were saying that even though he was buying some of the best engines, there was still a lot of unused potential in the car.

I wasn't trying to pick on the Guys that I bought the cars from. It's so easy for some to say if you can run 1.20 under you should get HP. What if someone does it in your combo. There are not many combo's that if time money and effort are put into them that can't run 1.20 under. This weekend is Atco. Even this time of year in the heat Atco can be fast. How many that go to Atco this weekend will detune their car so they don't run a second under. My guess would be almost half he field.

Bruce glad to see you are out again. BP
