Yeah, I'd thought about that. But then I thought about how many Chevy guys are doing real good with the little 305 sbc. So, I just assumed that maybe there'd be some out there who like the look of the Bird, but wanted a 305 engine. The '80 that I mentioned was the 2nd quickest Pontiac qualifier at some of the races I posted results for.

There's a guy in my hometown who bought an '81 T/A brand new. He got a 305 because he said that's the only way he could get the 4-speed he wanted. Don't have many miles. He brings it to the local car show occasionally. He also owns an original '77 Bandit Bird. A guy that raced with me one year, had it new. He'd drive it to my shop, to work on a '69 GTO bracket car we built for him.

Hey, that's just a little ancient Pontiac trivia for ya'll, free of charge. Probably won't mean anything to anybody but me. But, it's just a little bit of my Pontiac history.

I worked as a line mechanic in the mid to later 1970's at a local family owned Pontiac dealer... and worked on those Bandit Firebirds all the time......and occasionally someone brought in an earlier '70's SD Firebird along with many other cool cars.....

I currently own the Blue '80 Firebird that Chris Ashley drove. We drug it out of a backyard and are returning it back to stocker status, as it had been converted to a bracket car. Should be racing this year with my wife driving it. It will have another 301 Turbo back in the car.

Thanks for the info ! That's cool !

Hope you can gather up enuff 301T parts to keep 'em both running for as long as ya'll wanna race 'em.

It's lots of fun when you & your wife can race together. It's REALLY fun if you meet in the finals, while everybody else is loading up, or has already left !

While cruising DRC for SS info, I usually check the Stock results also. Thought I needed to put this here.

At this race, Pontiacs were #1 & #2 qualifiers. Kyle Riley was #1 @ 1.254 under, in his '77 Lemans. Bill Rink was #2 @ 1.228 under. Tim Gillespie's '68 GTO was #39 @ .936 under. Sal Biondo was #61 @ .602 under.

And speaking of Sal Biondo, he got RU at the Pontiac Excitement Nats !

The Biondo clan has quite a history in Pontiac class racing.

Well ya'll, these eyes are just too tired to focus on any more DRC race files, tonite.

So, I'm gonna take a short Cajun music break, then get some sleep. Good Night,

Arnie Toftland's F/SA GTO. It's about a half hour from me and has been kept in as-raced condition. Check out the JR Headers decals...they were on a lot of winning Pontiacs.
