The further away from 'stock' that these cars are allowed to get.....the closer they are to where NHRA wants you to eventually end up. You might want to keep in mind that NHRA thought Billy Meyer had the right idea 'way back as regards the Sportsman racer.

Gettin' what you want ain't always the best thing......

So was the crossram 2X4 setup for the Z28's. Not sure that one would make 'er through tech, though.

Then again......

Smilin' here.

Wasn't this a dealer installed option only?

If you ordered a new Z28 with that option, the crossram kit actually came in the trunk and was installed by the dealer. You could also specify a set of headers...they also came in the trunk and were made by Kustom Headers in Michigan. You could also get the same stuff o.t.c. for owners to install.

But back to the hood louvers on the Camaros and Novas.......grin.

It goes way deeper than this. I'm building a 3rd generation Camaro for stock and I have found that NHRA allows engine/transmission combinations that never existed in the showroom. To give you and example they allow automatics in the IROC Z's that were only available in a manual five speed. They allow cars that are carburetor that only came fuel injected from the factory. You can use any body flaring that you want or none at all it seems not to mention any hood. So, you could have a base Camaro a Berlinetta a Z-28 or an IROC Z and all are acceptable. NHRA has lost control of this and if we as racers really care about our sport, like golfers need to police ourselves. Sorry, my intent was not to hi-jack this post but, I think it goes along with it somewhere.

Note a SS 85 Camaro is not legal with an 82 hood and a 85 motor in a SS class. It is legal as an 82 car in GT but that would mean a harder index.
The BIG question NHRA will not address fairly is the decision to stop the 71 454 Vette from using the cold Air hood. That part is not a problem if ALL cars are policed but how could they LEAVE the HP the same at 475 when the motor in a camaro is 435? GT. Comment I got was it might become a dominant combination. HUH?
