I love racing the 1/4, but i find myself making better decisions when running a shorter track. I race at spencer speedway and its shift, shift, stripe. The distance doesnt truely matter as long as theres a race.

Wish i could attend the pittsburg races, but i sold my crate motor last night.

Good luck to Pete, Mark, JoJo.

Chip, We always are saying for our classes(Stock - Super Stock). Let TS and TD run 1/8th if they feel its to short.

Isn't the National Event planned for this track next year going to be an 1/8 mile event.Could be they are just working up to that. Also, has anyone seen the article in Drag Illustrated with Aaron and Scooter. If you read that, you may get some idea why they are looking to some races on shorter tracks. The article states that Pro Modified, for example, is closer racing with more cars capable of winning on the 1/8 mile than 1/4 mile. Just look at the ADRL deal. The top three or four cars are faster on the second half of the 1/4. The rest of the pack is pretty even on the 1/8 hence more racers with an opportunity to win.

Yes but why punish the HR SS and Stk classes. They can run the faster guys at the 1/8 and let the rest of us have more fun.Several of my friends have said they flat out are not going because it is an 8th.Car counts are so far down why make it worse. Wouldnt it be so easy to make everybody happy and run both 1/8th and 1/4.But NOOO its this way or the highway.Well as you can see racers are making a lot of different choices that is why some of the other sanctioning bodies are working and they are sucking off racers and that sucks because it make the two main bodies less fun and exciting for the racers and the fans.Rule number one LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS

Paul,
I was lucky enough to attend the 1/8 mile IHRA events at Kaukauna WI and Eddyville IA with Tom & Carol Rix where everyone managed to have a good time. Heck, in Eddyville you can get breakfast, sit at a nice table with an umbrella and watch the race while dining! Those other guys might have parachute crosswind issues, or minature front tires compared to the rear causing braking issues. In any case be thankful you can race and just go have a great time.

Even though I didn't like the path Top Stock took its last years, we went to the race in Martin and it turned out to be my last in person talk with Big Y about family, lasagna, racing, business and health. We did speak on the phone but I'd have regreted not going for this reason alone. (Not to mention helping the crazy guy with the Buick who by then along with the others was bringing a fork to a gun fight...)

Besides, when was the last time a track had bleachers at the 1/4 mile finish line? The spectators can't see you anyway, and insurance has got to be cheaper at the 1/8th mile!

Maybe class runoffs in AA/S should be 1/8th mile to take the new CJ horsepower advantage away. Can't hook that much power up on nine inch tires right from the getgo. Atleast I haven't heard any short times that jives with the big mph they can run.

How many of you have run 140+ at this track and tried to stop. You have H/R cars running 150. My Q/R car will run close to 170 and it's a slow one. TRACK IS TOO SHORT.
I don't think this is a PRP issue I think it is a 1/4 vs 1/8th thing or even worse a N vs. I thing. Most of the IHRA regulars have no problem with 1/8th. It's those NHRA people that are always looking for an excuse not to come that cause the problems.
