Joe,
Glad your Son is coming home safely, please give him our thanks for making us a bit safer. It would be nice to see some articles on low budget racers and for the most part most of the guys and gals on this site work with very limited budgets. I have a full sponsorship from my Mastercard and Social Security so I guess that makes me a high budget racer. JimR

My story is simple. I chose to join the USAF in a combat career field while my father continues to race with his own money (no sponsors) because he enjoys racing. Again, nothing against those race teams with sponsorship. I was just throwing an idea out there to the other racers encouraging them to voice their opinions. I appreciate the ones that have come forward and can see where there does need to be more stories or articles about the middle to low end racers. But it gets boring reading a story about how so and so won again and are advancing to the semi's or finals. Big deal, same old song and dance. I am personally more entertained by reading the story about joe-nobody who built his own car in his own garage with his son/daughter/brother's help and beat the odds to make it to the next round. Racing is a home grown sport consisting of the top contenders and the guys that are starting at the bottom (because everyone has to start somewhere) and would like to see the articles reflect that rather than jumping on the bandwagon of whoever the flavor of the month is going to be. As for the jealousy comment and for those who feel the need to stick up for the high end race teams your comments were noted. It's just typical that people would rather join or encourage the high end teams to keep getting the publicity than go against them and risk the backlash of your actions. God forbid you don’t suck up to them all the time.

I think Bob Frye does a good job writing these articles. He recently wrote a great article about me, my family and car after I won SST in Columbus. if you get a chance read it. The article was written on October 6 or 7 and now is in the 2010 archive. I'm about unknown as it gets. You can't please everybody!

While I completely understand the desire to see some of the lesser knowns also get coverage, a lot of the others that are now successful and now getting ink, went without any coverage for a long time too. So it is only now that they have earned their way into the ink.
It is kind of a crap shoot in that you have to be the story of the moment , and have a reporter there to see it, and hope he thinks his readers want to hear more about you than the guy pitted next to you. I am not saying that it is all luck, but timing plays a big part. And once again, reality shows that life isn't always fair.. But I still stand by my comment about Gracie and Bill being good people deserving of good ink. David The New Hemi Guy |

I dont see any big sponsors on the Howell cars besides he worked his *** off building a printing business for many years. Why should he not spend his money on what he loves and has been at also many years....drag racing. The last few years he has been able to go to more races with his daughter and I hope they win a few big races.
