Why do people claim crate engines are cheaper? Don't they require the same building protocol as a regular stocker engine or aren't you allowed to touch them up? I realize some of the regular stocker castings can get spendy but where else is the savings?

Ok, I am going to call Billy Nees. After a few months hopefully I will be at a Div.9 race ripping it up with the rest of you Stockers. Thanks for all the advice guys it is much appreciated! Now the original color was....Corvette Bronze......Yay or Nay? I kinda like the color with the right set of wheels!

Good luck with your combo. I ran a 250" in a '71 Nova in U back in the day. It was a tough task to get that thing to run under. You're on the right track by contacting Billy. He's forgotten more about Chevy sixes than I ever knew. Mark is right about the carb being the weak link. That little monojet has a tough time feeding that engine, especially in the hot, humid air you'll encounter in the south.

Good luck with the stocker Anthony. Is that the dark blue Camaro you raced a while ago?

Corvette Bronze looks great on a first gen Camaro, especially with a black bumble bee strip imo.

Thanks Bob.
Yeah Michael its the same camaro I ran for years. I have had that car for 23 years now. Wow I'm getting old! When I got the car it had the 6 cyl. and I'm ready to try something different, so I figured why not Stock. I might change my mind back, but who knows. I have all the matching #s parts for the car and one day it might go back to that, 250, 3-speed it was when I got it. But not for now!
See ya

Same rules, same bottom ends but a 330hp Vortec head (255hp pickup truck head) will blow a Camel Back head (295/300hp head) out of the water. So the heads, which is probably the most exspensive thing to build, only needs a good valve job and they are good to go. And yes I know everyone in stock has "stock" heads.

Basically a 96 and up Vortec motor from a pickup truck with a cam and intake will run the index with ease....will a bone stock 230 or 250 6 cyl with a cam run the index...probably not. Only reason I know this is because I have done it...my street car is 100% stock legal and it has a freshened 97 chev vortec with the smallest comp dual energy cam and it runs 11.90's which is like 2 under the index with a cam thats 30 degrees in duration too small.

Just my 2 cents. If I could run a 3 speed with a 327/275 or 350/295 I would have a real stocker motor in my car right away. Untill then the crate motor fits the bill.

Hi Sterling, 67 Camaro 230 uses a different carb but the size is about the same. Ya know it'll need a rollbar! Runs V.
