Well, it is suppose to be in the 50's today. Larry is out with the chainsaw cutting firewood. Now if we just heated with wood!! Jerry Newsome does heat with wood, so maybe he will get it. Things are looking a little bit more optimistic now. They are saying we may have power by the end of the week. We are using about $100 per day (40 gal) of diesel fuel to operate our generator, so I will sure be glad when this is all over. At least my 80 year old mother is staying warm here with us. We have had 10-15 people here since Tues. We went out yesterday and saw a lot of the destruction. Trees and electric poles down everywhere. One of the utility Co.'s lost 1500 poles. Someone said a load of poles came in yesterday with a police escort. Other utility companys from outside the state have been coming in to help. I am still looking for Brian Schultz!!

Well I guess I better get back at it.

Finally got power back (Sunday at 11:45 AM), got phone service back about 2:30 PM, going to miss football game, still no TV service. Looks like a war zone around here with all the ice damage. Lucky no damage to house or garage from the falling tree limbs. Thank goodness for trailer generator, had to go to E-town to get gas the first day, they finally got power on in town but then were running out of gas at the stations. There are still a lot of people without power so I'm lucky to get power back. I saw crews here from Tenn. and Ga. helping the local crews restore power. J. Gower stock 3058

Thank God. We just got power back on yesterday at around 5:00 pm. You don't realize how much electricity affects your life till you don't have any.

Greg, good to hear you finally got power back. Got all the tree limbs cut up yesterday, got up this morning to a inch of snow and it is still snowing. Changed oil in both generators, hope I don't have to use them again until race time. Got half the tree limbs to edge of road, guess the the rest will have to wait till after the snow. Winternational this weekend so will have something to keep up with on internet, doesn't look like TV service is going to be back up anytime soon. Well so much for update Tues. Feb 3 get off here and do a little snow removal. J.Gower stock 3058

Greg and Jimmy,
Glad to hear you are both ok. It has been 8 days now since we lost power. Mayfield and Paducah are both back with most businesses. We are so far out in the country, it still may be a while. We don't have the generator hooked up to the shop, just the house, so work has stopped except for what we do over the internet. Our phone service has stayed on along with our DSL, so internet is good. Larry has been cutting up limbs for a week and it still looks like a disaster area in our yard. He got the last one down that was on the porch roof without damaging anything, so we have been pretty lucky. We are down to only 6 people here now, I think. I guess I will know more tonight after everyone gets home from work. Most schools look like they will be out at least the rest of the week.

Everyone just hang in there. That's what we are trying to do!

Does the National Weather Service name ice storms like they do tropical storms? I sure some Drag Racer could come up with something appropriate for this one. For "B", how about Blew up a Bullett, or C Crossed the Center Line. I guess I been through too many storms.

Hey guys. WOW what a mess! Here in Muhlenberg County, the entire county was 100% without power for almost 6 days! Finally got the main two towns power on Monday morning so things are starting to get better but we are still 70% without power here.

Did not know how blessed we all were til the nessesaties are gone!

Of course the good ole' Liquor Stop was open every day...see IRS, I knew that 8K generator would come in handy at the store! On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week the only place that was open at all was the Liquor Stop...wish I had a hardware store, I would have been trying to help people out there also. Kinda wierd when a car load of people come up and all they wanted was food for their kids! I had slim jims, peanuts and chips and they were glad to get them, no one else was open at all!

Anyway we are way better now...Thank you to the line men from all over who helped! Power out at home is still much better now that you can at least buy food and get gas...not exactely in that order, lol.

Glad everyone else is making it too can't wait to see everyone at the track.

well power returned at 7pm monday night to home and bowling center (business)...
6 days dark cost us over $15,000 now the joy of fighting with the insurance company...

anyway its warm and its worse out in the state, best of luck to our division 3 friends who are STILL without power and heat

Has the Federal Govt. helped out in any way with disaster relief of any kind ? Or is our Govt. to busy giving away our country in foriegn aid and bailing out banks ? I havent heard much of anything about the storm except how bad it is in Kentucky on the news channels around Md. and D.C. There has been no mention of any kind of help exceot for some National Guard going from door to door checking on people.

FEMA has been in to help the local govts. They have been giving out ice, water, and kerosene at the local airport. Mostly the local government has been the ones to help. There have been warming stations set up in all counties. I guess fema comes in and reimburses the local and state people. All this area has been designated a natural disaster, so that gets more federal help. We have been lucky that we have been able to manage on our own, but lots of people haven't. The National Guard has been going door-to-door checking on people. We still don't have power, but Chris does. It is supposed to be 10 degrees tonight, so I sure am glad our generator is still working.
