I see every ones point of view and understand it cost $100,000 plus to build a new CJ or DP and understand that it is not cheap to race in those classes. What do you guys think John Calverts A/S FAIRLANE is worth?I am sure this is no cheap ride.

Can you go to the showroom and buy one of these CJ/DP? The reason I ask is if you can't that is called a crate motor. We all know how much NHRA guys hate crate motor cars!! LOL
I don't know that's why I'm asking.

I agree with Mike F. Can't blame Ford or Chrysler or any of the car's owners.
Total responsibility for this whole fiascal falls on NHRA's shoulders and their "I don't give a $h_t attitude" toward those sportsman racers that have supported them all through the years. Either get them (DP/CJ) in their own class or get the HP ratings right and this whole thing will be fun again.

While we're on the subject, how much do you think it costs to put one of the SS/AH cars together?? And how close do you think these cars are parts-wise and spec-wise (suspension pieces, etc.) to the originals? Showroom floor?? Yeah, right....Leave the new cars alone....they're creating a ton of interest and bringing more people into the stands to watch stock and superstock racing than you've had there for 20 years.....there's a place for NEW and OLD in this sport. "Feed them and let them all run." WJ

The new cars are cool and do belong on the racetrack. I think the suggestion most guys are making is to put them in their own class until they get closer to a realistic factor. The Challengers just went 1.7 under the old index in 4,000 feet of air. That's probably over 2 seconds under the old index in decent air.
By the second round of class, the only cars left are the CJ/DPs. I really don't see how separating things for a few years is that big of a deal. There are close to 30 of these cars at Indy. Secondly, I see a lot of people going after Danny Gracia or Bruce for this but knowing a little bit about how all this went down, these orders came from higher up the food chain. Also, you can't blame Ford or Dodge for submitting a low horsepower factor and hoping it gets approved. Who wouldn't do the same thing in their position? The guys who have spent countless hours on their combinations are getting screwed by NHRA brass. There is no way around it. Our East Coast Stock Superstock races pull 40-50-60 cars/divisionals are almost always full. I say we get our own thing going if NHRA doesn't care about us.

He really knows whats involved in something like this. We were heading this way a couple of years ago before the economy tanked. If it had been tried then it would have been financial suicide. Maybe the timing might be better this time around? Its a possability there might (and its a big maybe) be another USCN next year depending on how things work out. Ya never know ! There is so very much to consider and do with such an undertaking as that. Lots of details and liability involved. I know if Im involved the new stuff (DP's and CJs) will be in thier own class or have a bunch of HP tagged onto them if it happens. If certain ones can no longer make stock then so be it. Super Stock it will be for them. You cant have another INDY class race happen such as we all just saw. Id love to see some certain NHRA guys help out if it happened but its highly doubtful as in the case during the USCN #1. It was thier loss. Just my opinion and 2 1/2 cents worth. |
