Lets not loose sight of the fact that Brian said, he thought ALL 1.20 runs should go to the barn. Bo it is not possible at all race's for NHRA to tear down all fast runs, so they do random checks. NHRA is trying to police us as much as they can, and someone is always going to be mad. Their is no logic period! to put horse power on a motor or combo that fails tech. I don't know why some get a year off and some don't, it must be the way NHRA determines the infraction. If they think it was a flagrant infraction or possible mistake, maybe they also look at if they think it is performance enhancing or not. I am a big advocate for all playing by the same rules, but some times there are gray areas.

So are we saying that the driver of the vehicle in question DID receive some sort of punishment for having an engine that didn't pass tech?
If the engine in the vehicle HAD passed the tech inspection the combination would have received an automatic HP increase, correct? Fair is fair! But what about his first-round opponent in Class eliminations? Shouldn't he have been reinstated after the vehicle in question didn't pass the tech inspection? Lew

Do you all remember when the winner of National events was torn down. The only one who made out from that was the runner up, if the winner did not pass. And at Indy the only one who makes out from a class winner that does not pass is the class runner up. Been that way for ever. You should write NHRA if you feel it needs to change, not come here on a board and complain. I do not know of anything that has changed from NHRA because it was on this board. As for Brian Tilburg, He is as honest of a man as I have ever met. He said it was his mistake. Most people would come on here and make excuses. He mqakes tons of horsepower. I have set records with his engines and never had a problem. And so have many other people. Keep up the good work Brian, Thanks for all you do for us, Gary Parker

5 pages of comments, and I can't believe that nobody brings up the issue of applying HP to a combo for a run made in a mineshaft! How can atmospheric conditions be overlooked???

Chad
I got Hp on Monday for a run made with a twenty MPH plus tail wind in Topeka. I ask Bob Lang after the run this question: "If I made the same run under idenical conditions at a points race to set a new record, would I get the record?" Answer: "No to much of a tail wind to set a record" .......and so it goes! If some goes 1.20 under they need to come apart, even if they have water leaking or light at the scales. |

I can't believe that I am the one that is going to bat for a chevy racer!!!!!!! (have run Fords all my life) The racer in question was not randomly torn down. He is a hard working racer who thought he was setting the record with a car that would pass tech. Instead of jumping on the brakes at a 1000' like so many of you, he wanted to set a record! I'm pretty sure that would have been his first record. I'm also pretty sure that his engine builder just made a mistake. I've never met Mr. Tilburg, but I have been beaten by more than one of his engines. That year off thing has always seemed strange to me. Unless you are doing something like nitrous or anything flagrant, it never made sense to me to get kicked out for a year! This used to be a performance based class so getting parked for working in a gray area never made sense to me!!!!!!!! I do believe that anyone who hits a trigger should have to pass a teardown before getting everyone HP. Bob Moulton

Bob Are you sure he was trying to set the record? Not a statement but a question?
