May GOD put HIS healing hand on Bob and wrap HIS comforting arms around the family at this very difficult time.

Bob Unkefer passed away this morning at 12:05 AM peacefully and surrounded by family, per Facebook post earlier this morning.

Love and prayers to them in this difficult time.

What a huge loss for his family and friends and so much of the racing family who suffer with them. Prayers for healing to all of us who feel so deeply this hurt. RIP Unk, until we meet again.

Ugh, this sucks.

Unk was one of the very best. My dad and I were chatting last week about what makes an awesome announcer. I argued that a huge part is having enthusiasm for the cars on the starting line. You could always tell how much Unk loved seeing Jason McCormack's Hemi Belvedere or Bill Feist's 428 CJ Mustang or Johnny Diekema's Corvette.

Undoubtedly, this is a huge loss for drag racing as a whole.

RIP.
