Could have been Jack. That is what he used back then. That's one I hadn't heard. My first tow-it-to-the-track race car was 1956 9 pass Chevy wagon. 225 hp (2X4 bls and solid cam 265", Vette engine). Broke more 3 speeds in that tank than you could haul off in a big truck. As many as three in one day. I was young and not very smart. Now I'm old and not very smart, but now too lazy to swap trannys that many times a day. I put that drive train in a 210 2rd sedan later, much easier on parts.

Anybody got a picture of the Bill Mabry-Bill Holt-Don Wolff '68 Chevelle wagon? They made it to the World Finals in 1975.
Also, what about the Doughty Bros. '68 Chevelle in D4? That was first built by Sammy Pizzolato. I believe he won the Cajuns with it one year. |

I remember reading a report of the Gas Coupe/Sedan yearly meet at Rockford{?} Illinois one year and seeing a pic of a Belvedere wagon with hemi power that ran M/P out of Motor Sport Research in I think Wisconsin. I think the driver was Todd Aklam-hope the spelling is right on that.I always thought that was different-musta weighed a bunch!

I've just been fortunate to have a lot of good people share their pictures with me. Bill Truby probably has the best collection of drag racing pictures that exists! Bob Rice |

One of my first race cars. Note the 1/8 mile index on the rear side glass. This was during the years of no breakout, racing off indexes.

If my memory serves me well, Jack was on his way to the points meet at the old Houston International track with his bus that was converted to haul that big wagon. Don't think he had a rear door as it was just open all the time. Somehow the car came loose and "partially" fell out the back destroying the driveshaft. Thinking he also won that weekend. Wish he could get on this site and provide some insight into this as well as a bunch of killer stories.
