You all need to read this article. The writer talks about Compton may be trying to sell NHRA. Two things jump out !. How do you sell a non profit? 2. One of the new NHRA board members is a lawyer who is a tax specialist. Maybe he's going to try and figure out how to sell something that you don't own. Remember the HD partners deal that fell apart.

The extra money you are paying is like the Govt. subsidizing low income housing.

so does this mean the divisional events will not see a rate hike?

From Donna Harper- IHRA

Keeping with the tradition of providing great sportsman racing at affordable prices, the International Hot Rod Association announced today that it will once again keep sportsman racing costs at their current levels for the 2011 racing season.

The IHRA will once again maintain all competitor entry fees, membership costs, license costs and anything else associated with sportsman racing at their current levels. The IHRA is also actively involved in seeking out and securing new and exciting ways to further provide value for sportsman racers.

“Due to recent industry announcements regarding an increase in racer fees, we have already started getting a lot of calls and e-mails about whether we will follow suit. The answer is no. The IHRA is and always has been committed to providing maximum value to sportsman racers. I hate reacting to an announcement we didn’t even make, but when these things happen in our sport, competitors tend to assume IHRA will follow suit. I just want to put our competitors’ minds at ease and let them know that we will continue our tradition of working as efficiently as possible and cutting internal costs when we can in order to not increase any costs related to sportsman racing,” said Skooter Peaco, IHRA Vice President of Race Operations. “This sport is expensive enough as it is so, in addition to keeping costs at an affordable level, we are also in the process of adding to the programs already in place and finding new ways to showcase our incredible sportsman racing program.”

Check back with IHRA.com for more announcements in the coming weeks as the International Hot Rod Association gears up for another exciting season of racing beginning in January.

Its the blown fuel cars that cause the large insurance charges.

Mark, I was going to post the same thing last night, but I did not want to give nhra any ideals. I have not raced any IHRA National events for along time, I thought they also jumped on the sportman insurance bandwagon with Nhra? JKeihn 3954

It used to be that stock eliminator was a place someone with talent and a small budget could race National events, and run for a championship, and have a chance at being a champion. Now you need $100,000 plus new under rated cars cars, stacker trailers, and the ever larger motor homes plus a business that runs itself while your away for a week just to run a points race. Where is the line drawn for the little guy. Staying home and bracket racing just dosent cut it for most on this board. This is not to cut down those who have the money to do this crazy sport in a down turned economy. But where does it leave the loyal dedicated racers who are not well funded and just get by ? Some say $95 more is no big deal for a fun weekend with their buddies but is it really FUN to give your money away to an association that dosent give a rats azz about the lowly sportsman racer?
It's still the best place to race imho. I only have one low dollar car with a home-built engine, but if I can't afford the entry fee I don't need to be racing.
