I have be racing since early 60's =
This is the first time that I am seriously
worried that NHRA may completely split
off Sportsman from Pro events entirely or
even spin off Sportsman racing.

They World is changing by the week!

MJ Indy has always been the Super Bowl of Drag Racing. With this schedule it's been turned into another Pro National Event with Sportsman racers to fill in the down time. They wont' get my money this year nor my brothers and several other friends that make the long trip. None of us come by our self and we all spend money at the track. Barry

Barry , They don't DESERVE your money.
Never thought they would ruin INDY...Who knew?

Guys, I feel your PAIN but,....it’s not like the SUITS called a meeting and said ..Let’s shorten the schedule and screw the sportsman racers, especially the Stk/SS guys ...Covid 19 caused this, if your pissed blame China....What concerns me is that the SUITS have no IDEA how important class eliminations is to INDY.....They have NO clue...One other point, they chopped 2 days off the schedule but I still haven’t seen anything about pro rating the INDY entry fee...I mean SURELY they are not going to charge us full price ??,,,,,,LOL '!!!!!!!!

MJ I find it hard to believe that Covid had anything to do with cutting Wednesday off the Schedule. It was already cut before the Pandemic. It comes down to money. Not many who have never been a part of racing a Sportsman's car at this level know the time money and effort that goes into it. I wish they did. We might see a different outcome. I hope more stay away so the money they save by cutting us out on Wednesday cost them more than they save.. Even with Wednesday gone they still could have run class off on Thursday. Have the first time trial be the first round of class. Even if you loose in the first round of class you get your second time run when all others go into round two of class. How much more time would this really take in this format. Barry

There were only 29 cars left in Stock after two rounds of class at Indy last year.

Great posts in this thread from Mr. Rink and Mr. Parker. They make perfect sense to me! There are sensible ways to integrate class eliminations into the schedule. Unfortunately sensible decision-making has never been NHRA's strong suit.

I forget the year, a big surprise, but due to rain class was this at Indy.

Same class cars went down together. If you missed that run no class for you. Class win was determined by fastest winning time. If you red lighted, late and did not turn on win light, or failed fuel or weight you lost. It was the fastest winning time.

Don Little or Mike Fuller could tell us the year. I think Mike got by Don by .001. It was not what everyone came to Indy for but due to weather that's how it worked.

Indy is everyone's yardstick. I want to know if all my work this year closed the gap between Mr. Jim and I.

Cutting the schedule and cutting out Class is WRONG.
