George or Jimmy,
How about an update on how your race at Atlanta went, and are you headed to the points meet at Indy? |

I was at Atlanta for all 4 days of the race, and I spoke to George and Jimmy on numerous occasions. The question has been asked concerning what changes were made to convert the car to SS. Jimmy told me that they installed more aggressive cams, but did not change the intake manifold because there isn't anything available at this time; and, of course, they ran the wider tires that are allowed in SS. Hope that this info answers everyone's questions.

I don't see why the car can't run in a FX class in Super Stock but that isn't what Ford Racing intended on initially. The wanted a factory stocker and that went about building one like you would if you started with a factory bought vehicle. Everyone is screaming about the car making too much power, Ford has pulled a fast one blah blah blah. But how many cars running in Stock and Super Stock are underfactored? Is the number one qualifier from SS in Atlanta this weekend underfactored? Is Bobby Dennis, Colin Wigle, and Frank Grossi's combos underfactored? We could find several out there that are and we would constantly be changing the factors. I still don't see the issue, these cars have the potential to dominate the 427 Chevy's, Hemi Cars, and the orignal 428 CJ's but it has not proven in heads up competion yet. All I am saying is let the cars run and the system will work if they are too fast, don't kill them with a ink pen! Smitty |

Smitty,
A CJ made the fastest pass in Stock history during its third time in competition; 140+. That, of course, means nothing. The big problem with the CJ is not because it has a soft factor - it is because it is grossly under factored.
