Exclamation Tough Night Updated

Well after supper I decided to pick up a friend of mine and head over to his shop where we have been housing our Stocker project getting it ready for paint. When we arrived we noticed the side door open. Once we entered we found the car, new moser rear end, two 305 bare blocks and numerous tools and other parts had been stolen. After talking to the sherrifs office we were informed that the stuff is probably heading up north to the NY area or west to the Texas area. This project was a 87 Monte Carlo SS that is in primer and sealer. The interior was removed for paint but they took that too. It has warlock wheels with new hoosiers all the way around. The frame was powder coated black and the jambs were already painted candy rasberry. Please if you see this car let me know. This project was being done by kids from 3 local schools and my daughter and myself. We have worked really hard to educate these kids on class racing and they were so excited to get the car so close to completion. We are trying to find some pictures from cell phones as the digital camera was in the shop for record purposes and that is gone too. If anyone has a 84 to 88 monte or cutlass that they could donate or sell really cheap it would also be helpful. Please let us know. All information will be kept confidential.

I think that stealing a race car should be added to capital punishment ranks. I really feel for you guys and the kids. I would post pictures of the wheels and tires, you never know. Good luck, hopefully someone might come across your car. I would keep touching base with your Sheriff's Department in hope that they keep on it. I think the thieves might not cross the car into another state mostly due to the Federal Offense they might receive from crossing State line which could add to their sentence if caught(check with your local FBI office). You never know, you might just come across someone desk with the right attitude, even a racer(a lot of us out there). Good Luck.

That is a real lousy deal, Floyd.....Have your people watching craigslist adds and checking the spring swap meets. Lots of stolen performance stuff is showing up on there....Also, down where you're located, that Monte body could also end up running on some small roundy-round track.....trying to help out some kids and these idiots break in and steal something both you and they worked so hard together on really makes you lose faith in some people these days. Thanks guys. Evidently this is an ongoing problem. 2 cars that were stolen earlier this year turned up in NY. Another that was stolen last year turned up in Texas. These guys are definately pros as nothing was destroyed and no prints were left. The hardest thing to swallow is the kids. They have worked so hard retaining sponsorship and donations for this project. This was not for a grade or anything like that so nobody had to do it. They just simply did it for the love of the sport. Hopefully we can find another GM body and start over. Just sad to lose it all after coming so far.

Sorry to read about stolen car. Besides the Spring Carlisle coming up in Pennsylvania, there is also a GM Carlisle dedicated to only GM cars, parts etc. Just a thought... hope you recover you stuff.

I have held commenting on this until now, because well having stuff stolen (ESPECIALLY for the kids) is just sickening, its impossible to explain to them why someone would do it, its sad, it changes a persons perspective forever. I have had things stolen and now well, I am 38 yrsold and understand to some degree why people steal a)theyre lazy dirtbags b)maybe in a real bad spot and need to feed the family c)are just thieves d)do it for the thrill e)cant make an honest living f)werent raised right, the list goes on and on. But while I agree with none of them I understand it.

To a younger person they cant and it wil jade their perception of people to some degree, try not to let that happen Floyd, let them see you handle it well and their emotions will follow, dont get too negative about the dirtbags that stole it in front of them even though I too would be seething. Shrug it off as a "well they obviously need it more to steal it" and let them know youll built the next one better, the next one is always better because you learn on the first, try somehow to turn it into a positive for them.

You understand I think what Im trying to say.

I do know where theres a complete and rust free Monte (81) for about $800 no title, its in a shop that has been owed money on it for 10 years...lol...they never re-applied for a title. Its just sat inside...its my cousins shop, if he wasnt so broke and needing the money I would ask him to donate it.....but its an "option" I guess, Ill root around if there is anything I can think or find SBC and GM Ill ask you if you can use it.

Ill also keep an eye out, but I dont see it ending up here, Ebay and CL though.

Drooze,

You may well have hit on something here.

Floyd,

What might you need in the way of parts, tools, what not? You could throw a list of stuff on here that you could use? I doubt I have enough spares of anything that you might want but if I did and it's something I don't need. Be glad to donate it. From the response here, probably others that feel like I do.

For that matter, I have a 92 RS Camaro body setting in the driveway, the owner of the car wants the transmission and the t-tops back. My wife promised the driver side mirror to a kid she works with (long story there, LOL). I'm going to use the engine for spare parts. Other than that, I was going to strip it, part it out and scrap it. It's not a cherry by any stretch of the imagination. Wouldn't take a lot of money for me to let it go. Downside for you, I'm in Indiana. Something to consider.

I've dealt with thieves a time or two myself, it sucks.
