The answer is plain and simple! RE-RUN!!!! The tree malfunctioned, and it doesnt matter what light Marion had!Every round counts when u are chasing a championship.

I'm sorry, I don't know who B.D.D.2 is. This is an interesting situation isn't it?

To answer the question in the title I bet every NHRA DD under the same circumstances would have come to the same decision Jay did. But,.. I guess we certainly know how you would have handled it IF you had been the race director. But, consider these factors. Under the same situation with the tree should there have been a re-run if Stokes had redlighted? Under the same situation with the tree should there have been a re-run if Marion had gotten the win? If Stokes had crossed the center line should there have been a re-run? Is it still all that simple?

Now please consider this: If Marion had not completed the run, even if he launched the car and then stopped and pointed out the problem with the tree do you think Jays decision would have been different? It would be easy enough to check the tree.

I would imagine Jay did what he thought was the most fair to both racers given what he knew about the circumstances. And, he made this decision in minutes, while we have the advantage of hashing it over for days.

As my hero Forrest Gump said. "that's all I got to say about that".

Well Clutch Man,...... this is almost like quoting "drag race scripture". Since it was an NHRA event I guess we have to use their Bible. Section 1, Page 4, Paragraph 5).

And heck,.... I've been putting grits and grease on the table by running drag races for the last 35 years and haven't done anything right yet. Why should I start now? You know what they say,..... those than can,..do,... those that can't become drag strip operators.

Marions tree does not have the 1st yellow bulb come on, but he leaves on the bottom bulb, has a 017 light, but because the tree didn't count down thinks he is late.
Doesn't drive the top end like he would have if the tree would have counted down correctly. he is thinking I'm late & lost to Stokes .
Does to Div.3 dir. and askes for a rerun, Jay says because he had a good light [by accident] NO rerun.

the car behind him saw that the tree didn't count down right and shutoff till they fixed the tree [new bube]
What do you think your Div director would have done ?
so now nothing was wrong he was just late???????????????

You must race in Div 3 all the time to understand how stupid our DD is. Bill Holt can’t even come close to Jay. Marion did get screwed last week. But it’s not a big shock Jay did nothing.
