True...but its still $95 now to pay for insurance so the blown fuel cars (Top Idiots and Ha Ha cars) can run at national events with no benifit to the sportsman racers unless you or your rig get hit by flying parts. No blown fuel cars ....no extra insurance....thats why there is no extra charge for insurance at the points races and opens. You are helping support the track oilers ! At least the tracks wont rust.

Just announced: $30 entry for $1,000,000! NHRA is thrilled to announce we are lowering the National Event sportsman entry fee to an incredible low $30! Just pay the $95 insurance surcharge, $70 trash and EPA surcharge, $65 track prep surcharge, $30 advertising and promotions surcharge, and $15 service fee. That's right, just $30 to race for your share of the posted payout and awards totaling over 1 MILLION dollars at EVERY event! There's never been a better deal!

Now, that sounds a lot better. lol
$35.00 more won't keep me from going. Everything else to do with running my business has gone up. I'm not suprised. Yes, the fuel cars are likely the problem, but people come to see them. not us. It's a business. Maybe business ownners see it differently.

Add it all up and it's a heck of a lot of money. Rationalizing why one should just roll over and pay it is not "rational". If one has enough disposal income, fine...more power to ya'. But most people don't. Unfortunately, there are also some that don't and won't admit it to themselves. __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __ "Just announced: $30 entry for $1,000,000! I just recently paid $80 for the honor of having my permanent # for the next two years.
In any other business that would be called usuary.I guess the office help has to get their salary raise from somewhere.

My last IHRA race, Nitro Jam Edmonton 2008.
The advertised car entry in drag review was $150.00. At the front of the line $180.00 The advertised crew price in drag reveiw was $70. At the front of the line $95.00. The only notice was 5 days previous on their website. Round money $50.00 beginning 2nd round. Changed to $40.00 beginning 3rd round. The excuse told to be by S.P. at Ihra was we needed more money what did you expect us to do? That race was their biggest. Most entries, and most spectators. That is the IHRA way. I'd rather know up front. |

I only attend one national event per year so the increase wont keep me from entering the Gators. Hopefully the divisionals will not increase too. Thats what hurts the average guy. The division 2 schedule is the real killer for us here in the south. thats 7 or 8 races in a row.I cant afford this schedule unless I get lucky and win some money. The schedule here in div 2 needs to be addressed by both N&IHRA. Car counts will suffer and the track owners will start to distance themselves from our races

Well that's the first time I've heard THAT story. I can't speak to the round money, but the entry fee + insurance surcharge in 2008 was $190. If you paid $180, you got a deal! All those magazines are still available online. http://bluetoad.com/publication/?i=4473 pg 90 As for the crew fee, was it US or Canadian funds? There's been a difference at the Canadian events for at least a decade.
Since I've never heard of this before, and at least part of your story is demonstrably incorrect, I don't think it is fair to say "That is the IHRA way". I have NEVER been to an IHRA event where the entry fee or purse was changed, and it's fair to say I've been to a few...
