I broke down and called NHRA and talked to Pat C., ask him if the seat deal in Stock was the same as Super Stock and he told me yes as long as the seats in question were "Full Size" and not some short backed aluminum shell that some Super Stock guys were trying to run a while back.

The Seat information reads the same for Stock and Super Stock in the new amended rules for 2013.

I can save about 60 lbs by removing my 45 year old bench seat and replace it with up to date lite weight bucket seats and mounts that are definintely built better and stronger than my bench set up.

If you like the way your old seat looks, aren't concerned about how old they are and are not trying to save some weight don't worry about it.

I wonder how many racers would still want the "safety" advantage of a race seat, if they had to add enough weight under the new seat to match the weight of the "dangerous:" factory seat.?

Exactly RJ, if you like what you have then don't change. But for me, if I should ever have the miss fortune of hitting a wall going a buck twenty five, I want the stability of a properly installed purpose built quality racing seat to support me through that type of g force load . As an added bonus, moving weight around in a race car to better balance it for optimum traction has been a drag racers tool going back to the 50's.

I would!!! What people don't understand is with the bench seat in my car I can't snatch up the seat belts tight because I wouldn't be able to reach the shifter. Therefor I have to leave the belts loose because with the bench seat I have to move the shifter closer to the firewall for it to go into 2nd and 4th because it hits the seat. So now I'm leaning forward with loose belts grabbing gears. This is why I just bought factory buckets for the car so I could keep the shifter back where I need it. But now I can just keep the Kirkey's and life is good for me

Just fabricate a notch into the seat frame, have it upholstered over and put the shifter where you want it...Been done for years

I have been to a couple races where the starting line crew checked that your harness was cinched. If it wasn't you didn't get the opportunity to do it they would back you out and you where done. I saw this at both N and I tracks.
