Default Death Of A Block

Pulling my old backyardgin engine apart for the last time made me think of all the good things we have done. Block is broke and not repairable, its racing days are over. Maybe it will come back as a cast iron skillet and cook many a great meal. It could come back as ornamental iron used on Bourbon street and catch beads and watch the constant party.

We only missed one Indy and that was my fault. I have no idea how many rounds you help me win after I did a poor job one the line and you run right on the number.

Bottom line you taught me a lot after I learned to listen to what you were trying to tell me.

Larry, something that gave you that much service needs a good final resting place. Check out this website for some great ideas on coffee tables made from blocks. -Al

Ain't it funny how that works? Really good blocks DO go to Heaven just like the Goldfish we had when we were children.

Cool Re: Death Of A Block

If that's a 440 block, you wouldn't have to worry about someone stealing it and carting it out the door.

Hi Larry, could you put up a pic of the block damage, the only 440 block I've seen broken was a friends who ran twin turbos on Alcohol with about 35lbs boost in his drag boat.

Larry & Patsy, Was so sad to hear of your problems at Indy through the "live" reports. Here's an idea for the block that will allow it to continue to serve you in another capacity. It may not be necessary in your locale, but up here in C.N.Y. this works really great. A drag racer that lives about 5 miles from me got tired of the snow plows taking down his mail box every winter, so he built a base from an old B.B. (broken) Chevy Block, then welded a crankshaft to the block, put his mail box on the end of the crankshaft, then surrounded the mail box with an old dragster style roll cage. He painted it orange, and the plows haven't taken it down since.
Re-purpose and re-use Sir.
Does this mean you're done racing for the year?
That would be even sadder.
