FYI 5 year Influenza death totals
I was asked recently about how covid-19 numbers compared to the average influenza season. The only hard numbers to match for comparison are deaths. According to the CDC web site, over the last 5 flu seasons in the US the number (rounded) of deaths are as follows. 2019 34,200, 2018 61,000, 2017 38,000, 2016 23,000, 2015 51,000. Average year 41,440 deaths.

Re: FYI 5 year Influenza death totals
For perspective in roughly 7 months we are at a shade under 160,000 cases and growing by about 1,000-1,500 daily.

Today U.S. COVID deaths are showing 159,000 and lately increasing by over 1,000 per day. Confirmed cases 4,500,000 and adding 50,000 per day. Also this thread probably belongs in "The Lounge". |
