Default St. Thomas wrap up

Summer Action and Points Heat up in the Can – Am Stock / Super Stock Series
The first weekend in August, the Can-Am series made its first stop of this season at St. Thomas Dragway Park. The weather was perfect, and the track crew worked as hard as ever to provide one of the most inviting and enjoyable atmospheres anywhere in the world of drag racing.

Saturday: 39 cars came to the starting line, and after 7 hard rounds of racing Glen Baker in his SS/KA Buick was our winner. Bob Park drove his GT/GA Camaro to the runner up position. After dinner, the 40 and under crowd took part in a special shootout, for bragging rights and the highly prized, one of a kind Smith Performance trophy. James Little was the winner in his SS\PEA1 Malibu, beating a very strong running Pierce Jones in his I\S Firebird. A large thank you to Jim Wildgoose and Wildgoose Performance for sponsoring this years prizes. Next years race is sure to be bigger and better, as ideas for new formats are already being put forward. The long haul award has to be given to Rachelle Thibert who traveled from Kansas with 2 very well prepared K/SA Malibu’s.

Sat Prizes: Dilts Piston Hydraulic entry award – Chris Leeder
Rick Hill Gas Money award, (best losing RT) – Kevin Dundas
Queenston Group Insurance Leather jacket awarded – Glen Baker

Sunday: Day two saw 34 cars make the call to first round. Dave Drewitt took his SS Camaro to the winners circle over the weekends most successful Buick driven by Glen Baker.

Prizes: Dilts Piston Hydraulic entry award – Frank Federico
Rick Hill gas money award (closest to the dial losing rnd 1) – Doug Box
Geoblaster Bounty hunter award – Dave Drewitt
Queenston Group Insurance leather jacket awarded – Dave Drewitt

Next on the schedule is Aug. 25th at Cayuga dragway park. This is a non points race as part of the DeSilva Canada’s Fastest Street Car race. A $7000 Matco tool box will be up for grabs! At the end of the month Can-Am is back to Cayuga for the 50th edition of the Labour Day Spectacular! Rumor has it that Stock and Super Stock will be all run at Indy this year………we`ve been doing that way since the beginning! The Can-Am Series, trend setters for the highest levels of class racing. Look forward to the largest turn out yet.
