That car still exists, and is owned by a member of "theAMCforum.com". And other than the wheels/tires looks exactly the same today.
Trivia answer:
To help handle the additional torgue,
ONLY X-code cars had the rear shock move to behind the rear axle. To support the upper shock-mounts, plates were added to the differential-hump, inside the trunk. Similar plates were used the following year on the Javelins & AMX's.
