Sure you can; as a matter of fact that is what #1 diesel fuel is, a combination of kerosene and diesel to improve the flow characteristics in cold weather. The BTU content isn't as high so you lose power. One trucker I met out on the road ran his Peterbilt on old transformer oil for a year; another guy I met ran his truck on discarded mineral spirits (smoked like crazy, but did the job).
