I would put a set of stiff sidewalls on it. I switched to stiff sidewalls on my 10.90 car, 68 Camaro that weighted about 3100. Made the car more consistant, quicker reacting, and went from 100 passes to 200 passes out of a set of the Goodyears. I kept the 14.5 x 32 stiffs on it the last couple of years I had it.
You might be able to run a little more air pressure also... on new tires I would try 10 psi and see what you get.
